PIC: luanar to host Public Universities staff Games

The Public Universities Staff Sports Association of Malawi (PUSSAM) has organised a two-day intervarsity games which is pegged to be held on May 28 and 29 this year at LUANAR campus in Lilongwe. This will be the second series of games organized by association since its inception.

PUSSAM comprises six local public universities namely- Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), University of Malawi (Unima), Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar), Mzuzu University (Mzuni) , Malawi University of Science and  Technology (MUST) and Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS).

The public relations officer for the association Mr. John Mutepuwa said the games have been organized to fulfill a number of objectives enshrined in PUSSAM’s strategic plans. The plans include promoting health and wellness, enhancing active mass participation and strengthening social cohesion and culture in the country.

A number of sporting codes have been aligned and include: Football, netball, darts, pool, volleyball, bawo, athletics and other indigenous games.

While PUSSAM depends on member associations (universities) to run its affairs, it still requires assistance and collaborations with corporate partners and other organisations to support other objectives of the association.

The association is, therefore, calling upon the corporate world and other organisations to come in and partner with the association particularly in the outreach activities that PUSSAM has planned to engage around the local community at LUANAR on the sideline of the games.

The intervarsity games will also be spiced by traditional dances where all member universities will peform.

PUSSAM aims to provide an environment for recreation and growth of sports to the member associations. The winners of the tournament will be awarded trophies and medals on Saturday evening, the 28th May, 2022.
