Background
The Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), formerly known as the Continuing Education Centre (CEC), has been a key provider of lifelong learning since the late 1960s. Initially focused on professional development, ICE expanded in 1999 to introduce diploma programmes under the Board of Governors. Following the board’s dissolution in 2002, the Institute transitioned to offering internationally accredited qualifications, becoming a self-sustaining entity independent of university funding.
ICE was officially established under the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences Act of 2019, consolidating the operations of CEC and the Management Development Centre (MDC). This rebranding unified all Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma programmes under ICE, enhancing its role in tertiary education.
To meet the increasing demand for higher education, ICE offers flexible, face-to-face courses for students with Malawi School Leaving Certificate of Education (MSCE), General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE), and equivalent qualifications.
