The training was aimed at familiarizing the MUBAS Community with the purpose and benefits of ISO 210001-2018, understanding of ISO Certification process and the underpinning principles and structure of the IS0 21001-2018 Standard.

Speaking during the opening of the training, MUBAS Vice-Chancellor, Associate Professor Nancy Chitera retaliated that the training was in line with the institution’s vision of being an inclusive, engaged, entrepreneurial and research-intensive university.

‘’ If we want to be a university that is internationally recognized, there is need for more awareness and training among our staff members on certification and standardization,’’ said Chitera.  

She added that as the university which seeks to attract international students, adherence to international standards is pivotal to university’s reputation if the university is to enroll more international students.

In his remarks, Chairperson of MUBAS, Professor George Yobe Kanyama Phiri hailed the university management for its initiative to improve  teaching and learning at the institution.

Kanyama Phiri said ISO Certification will not only help the university attract more international students but also improve   service delivery at the institution.  

Commenting on the training, Malawi Bureau of Standards (MSB) Director General, Professor Bernard Thole, whose organisation facilitated the training, advised educational institutions in the country to get internationally recognized certification in order to attract more global recognition.

Thole said educational institutions, just like all other organizations need to meet approved global standardizations to enhance quality service delivery and boost stakeholders’ confidence.

‘’ If institutions of higher learning want to demonstrate that they have international recognition, they need to get certification of educational organizational management systems such as ISO 21001-2018 and that way, they will be able to internationalize their recognition and   attract international students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, ‘’ said Thole. 

ISO 21001-2018 Certification is an internationally recognized management system for educational institutions.
