VC hails MUBAS athletes and pledges continued support
This marks the second time in three years that MUBAS has been crowned the champion of this tournament, securing 14 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals, beating the other public universities in Malawi.
Speaking at MUBAS on Monday, 12 June 2023 when the Association formally presented the winning athletes to their Vice Chancellor, the excited Chitera said she was extremely proud of the performance of the MUBAS staff at the PUSSAM sports tournament.
“I am optimistic that MUBAS will continue to produce outstanding results in various competitions and I would like to assure members of staff of managements` continued support in form of financial and material resources, including equipment, to enable you compete effectively and achieve excellence,” Chitera said.
The MUBAS Staff Sports Association President, Noel Chavula, also thanked the management for its unwavering support towards the MUBAS staff sports initiatives and expressed his appreciation for the recognition shown by the Vice Chancellor and the university management. Chavula highlighted that the support shown is essential for the team's upcoming plans to send 32 athletes to the 2023 Southern African Universities Staff Sports Association (SAUSSA) tournament to be held at North West University in South Africa in December.
One of the MUBAS athletes who won several gold medals during the tournament, Miriam Chiloto, expressed her gratitude towards the management, stating that recognition of athletes' achievements is a tremendous source of motivation that inspires them to aim for greater success.
Sports Administrator for MUBAS, Victor Chikoti, commended the gesture by Management:
“MUBAS athletes have set a remarkable example of teamwork, dedication and excellence. The continued support by management is an essential catalyst for achieving more significant milestones in the future.,” said Chikoti.
PUSSAM sports tournament is an annual event that brings together public university staff from different institutions to interact and share knowledge and skills in various areas through sports. The tournament encourages sportsmanship and fosters a sense of unity and community among the staff.
At the tournament in Mzuzu, the overall results had MUBAS on position 1 followed by KUHeS, LUARNAR, UNIMA, MUST and the hosts MZUNI were last.
