Assistant Accountant
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Assistant Accountant tenable in Finance Department at The Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi. The requirements for the position are as follows:
Duties
Receivables
• Prepare a list of all outstanding debts
• Prepare pro-forma invoices
• Raise invoices for clients
• Resolve student and staff accounts queries
• Prepare receivable journals
• Verify students refund requests
• Post credit and debit notes
Payables
• Prepare monthly payable schedules
• Match invoices to Local Purchase Order
• Book supplier invoices
• Prepare monthly supplier reconciliations
• Prepare payroll and associated reports
• Prepare payable payment vouchers
• Prepare cheques and electronic payments
Bank Reconciliation
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
• Prepare bank transfer journals
• Capture bank transfer journals
• File bank transfer journals
• Verify with banks all outstanding cashbook issues
Cashiering
• Receipt cash, cheques and deposit slips
• Maintain petty cash
• Prepare bank deposits
• Bank receipts
• Summarise bank deposits
• Post petty cash payment vouchers
• Prepare petty cash balance schedules
• File duplicate receipts, payment and petty cash vouchers and other related documents
Qualifications
• Diploma in Accounting from a recognised institution
• Relevant Professional certificate(s) will be an added advantage
• Member of ICAM
• 2 year’s relevant experience
• Those applying from the public service should have certificate of declaration of assets
