Professor in Physics
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Professor in Physics tenable in Physics and Biochemical Sciences Department at The Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi.
Duties
Teaching and Learning
• Develop and review teaching and learning materials
• Provide tuition to students at various levels
• Undertake assessment activities
• Initiate innovative curriculum development and reviews
• Engage in external examination activities
Mentoring
• Initiate mentorship activities
Research
• Engage in research leading to publications and policy development
• Establish linkages for postgraduate programmes and multidisciplinary research
• Lead specialized research groups
• Supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate students
Consultancy
• Develop, implement and monitor multidisciplinary projects
Community Engagement & Outreach
• Engage in community capacity building programmes
• Deliver public lectures
• Lead in departmental outreach activities
• Facilitate linkages with local or international universities as well as the industry
Resource Mobilisation
• Initiate multidisciplinary projects leading to mobilization of resources
• Identify funding opportunities for postgraduate programmes
Qualifications
For the position of Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor, the candidates should possess a PhD in a relevant field strongly linked to the undergraduate qualifications of Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences and Technology majoring in Environmental Physics or Bachelor of Science in Physics or its equivalent with credit or distinction and should have a record of accomplishment of scholarly publications in recognised peer reviewed journals.
