2018 Faculty of Commerce Postgraduate Programmes applications invitation

The Malawi Polytechnic, a Constituent College of the University of Malawi, Faculty of Commerce is inviting applications for the following Postgraduate Programmes which will commence in March, 2018. 

1. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Commerce

  • PhD in Entrepreneurship
  • PhD in Strategic Management
  • PhD in Financial Management

Candidates for PhD programmes must have a relevant Masters or MPhil degree from recognized institutions with at least 2 years experience in a relevant discipline.  The PhD programme is of 3 years duration.

Fees and Expenses

US$10,000 (Paid in MK Equivalent) for the whole programme will carter for tuition, supervision and examination costs. Research expenses will vary from candidate to candidate based on the nature of research; however indicative figures of US$4,500 for the whole programme for PhD candidates may be used for budgeting purposes.

Applications Must Include

  • A completed postgraduate application form;
  • an Academic transcripts of all previous university courses taken including percentage scores where necessary;
  • Certified copies of relevant certificates;
  • An abstract of master’s research or dissertation;
  • A concept paper relating to the proposed research topic which should not be more than 5 pages long;
  • Sample academic writing i.e. publications, conference reports, etc which adhere to the broad conventions of academic publishing (i.e. contain an up-to-date review of relevant literature, a description of relevant research methods and an evaluation of results, etc.) and which identify the applicant as a significant contributor (maximum of 30 pages);
  • 2 letters from academic referees at postgraduate level; and a detailed latest CV.

Please note that PhD and candidates may apply for placement at any time of the academic year.

2. Executive Master of Business Administration

Mode of attendance offered: Friday to Sunday from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm

Course Structure

The programme has three parts:

Target Audience

The program is designed to suit middle or senior level managers from commercial, industrial, non – profit making or public sector organizations, especially those who would like to prepare themselves for a more challenging senior position.

Venue 

Blantyre: Florence House, Malawi Polytechnic

Lilongwe: Kamuzu College of Nursing

Entry Requirements 

Any recognized University degree or its equivalent plus a minimum of three years practical experience.

Programme Fees

Successful applicants will be required to pay tuition and thesis fees of Malawi Kwacha equivalent of US$7,650.00. The programme is offered on non-residential basis for 2 years.

Application Procedure

Applications MUST INCLUDE: A completed application form and CV; 2 Academic References; Certified Academic Transcript; Certified copies of original certificates; a non-refundable application fee of MK10, 000 for Malawian applicants and USD25.00 for international students; and Proof of funding for the two years of study in a form of a scholarship offer or a bank certified guarantor.
