Dorothy Eneya is the first woman to earn a PhD in Library and Information Science in Malawi. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from University of Malawi in 1999, Post graduate diploma in Computer Science from University of Malawi in 2007, Master of Science in Library and Information Science from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in Scotland in 2010, and PhD in Library and Information Science from University of Zululand, South Africa, in 2020. She has also attended several professional workshops and trainings.
Dr. Eneya joined the Library profession in the year 2000 as an Assistant Librarian responsible Cataloguing and Classification at University of Malawi’s Central Library Services. She was then promoted to senior Assistant Librarian responsible for Stock development and management at Chancellor College Library in 2012. In September 2014, she was appointed as College Librarian for The Polytechnic.
In her quest to contribute to the library profession in Malawi, Dr. Eneya has served the Malawi Library Association (MALA) in different capacities, including Training Librarian and vice president.
Dr. Eneya has published a number of papers and a book chapter. She has also presented at conferences, both international and local. Her research interests include Information seeking behaviour, disability, ICT in libraries, open access, informetric, knowledge management, library administration and management
